Best Meridian Insurance Company (BMI) acquired the operating license of Seguro Mundial-Colectivos Empresariales (formerly Empresa Guatemalteca Cigna de Seguros) in order to enter the Guatemalan market.
The purchase of the license allows BMI to expand its operations in Guatemala, as contemplated by the Insurance Activity Law that entered into force on January 1.
MPF América Central, former owner of Seguro Mundial, explained that the sale operation refers only to the operating license, since the insurance portfolio, assets and obligations were transferred to MAPFRE, Seguros Guatemala, SA
BMI was founded by Tony Sierra in the 1970s in Miami, USA; It has a portfolio of US$7 billion and more than 200 thousand clients in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
