BMI, in its strong commitment to support Guatemalan children and families, joined the family race organized by McDonald's this past February 26. The objective of this initiative was to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation, which operates in the capital city, and for the “Rotary Children's City” project in Quetzaltenango.
BMI made a donation to the ambulance service that assisted several of the participants during the event. In the same way, it contributed with the purchase of tickets to participate in the event and thus support this noble cause. According to Alejandro Arriola, General Manager of BMI Guatemala, BMI employees and their families participated in this race. “The idea was to share a moment of happiness and to be able to encourage an active and healthy life in our workers, which was basically the final objective of the degree”. Arriola specified,
The race was full of surprises for families and included the 5K and 10K categories. In Guatemala it was held in Plaza Obelisco, making an extensive tour of Avenida Reforma. Prior to the race, various warm-up and entertainment activities were carried out that began an hour before the official start of the activity scheduled for eight in the morning.
The Ronald McDonald House in Guatemala provides accommodation for sick children and their families so that they can continue with medical treatment in a safe place and close to the hospitals where they are treated. Families in the interior travel far from their homes in search of medical help, therefore, the work of the Foundation is transcendental because it helps children who are fighting an illness to be close to their families.
For its part, the project "Rotary City of Children" executed by the Rotarian ladies of Quetzaltenango houses 4 institutions that help children with physical and brain disabilities, as well as hearing and visual disabilities. They also cover treatment for children with cancer.
BMI within its initiatives of Corporate Social Responsibility, supports activities and actions focused on generating social inclusion, but also that generate a positive impact on society at the Latin American level.
