The following article was published in the newspaper Siglo 21:
The "red carpet" medical services offered by the US insurance company BMI will be available to Guatemalans very soon. In April of this year, the Superintendency of Banks (SB) authorized a change in the composition of the shareholders of Aseguradora Mundial-Colectivos Empresariales, SA
Later, the banking and financial services regulator received the request to approve the change to its corporate name, which would become BMI Compañía de Seguros de Guatemala, Sociedad Anónima.
This management is in the study phase in the SB and then it will have to go to the Monetary Board (JM), which must grant authorization for the modification.
According to the insurance sector expert, Mario Mendizábal, this company offers services that would be very difficult for the bulk of the population to acquire. "These health insurance services are for high population segments that operate in Miami, for example," he added.
On the BMI website it is shown that the services include insurance plans that offer medical visits and hospitalization with VIP treatment (Very Important Person) that receive the patient and their families from the airport and take them to the place of accommodation.
